Fishing is available to all members on the club’s stretch of the Erewash Canal near Langley Mill.
We have access to a mile of mainly single bank fishing on this canal, stretching from Langley Mill lock (close to KFC) down to Shipley lock.

Day tickets are also available for the canal, but these must be purchased in advance from one of our official ticket outlets. We do not sell day tickets on the bank.
Due to the flat nature of canal towpaths, the canal is very accessible to fish. There is parking available at both ends of the stretch – near Shipley lock and also on Anchor Lane in Langley Mill – giving convenient access to all but the very centre of the stretch.
As with most canals this venue is quite shallow, with depths up to 4 feet, so the fish can be temperamental. Don’t let this deter you, because when the Erewash Canal is “on” it can produce good silver fish bags along with bream, chub, perch, tench, a few pike into double figures and the odd bonus carp too.
This venue is particularly suited to pole fishing and light float fishing, as well as lure fishing with a roving approach.
The rural nature of this canal means it is both scenic and peaceful. In summer, the margins are filled with lily pads and rushes, and the water can be crystal clear. Weed growth is abundant, meaning the fish population has a huge natural larder, but a stealthy approach paired with balanced tackle and careful feeding can lead to an enjoyable session with plenty of bites from a variety of fish. The perch in this canal are particularly noted for their fighting ability – pound-for-pound these are some of the hardest fighting, pretty perch you are likely to find anywhere!
The Erewash Canal is an ideal venue for youngsters and beginners to learn to fish, or hone their angling skills.
The fishing on our stretch is run jointly with Matlock Angling Club.
Below you can view the available fishing and parking areas on the canal, in an interactive Google map. Please note, there is no access to the lower car park (Shipley Lock) from Heanor end – instead you must approach from Eastwood and cross the A610 to access. This car park is locked at 8pm each evening, so please be mindful of this when fishing in the evening:
