The Club has fantastic news to share, on behalf of our Night Members, who oversee the carp angling at our Wyver Lane Pond.
In the words of our Carp & Night Fishing Officer, Andy Bennett:
“Well here they are, after 3 years of planning our new fish are finally in their new home, the beautiful mirror at 19lb 6oz and a fantastic common at 20lb 14oz have reached their destination! These are fish some of the night members have been saving up to buy after otters took at least 12 of our beloved fish, then we had a tragic flood last November which could have taken a lot of our carp. With a bit of help from the Club we have achieved something great between us! Thank you to those who donated to our cause.”
Here are some shots taken during the stocking:
20lb+ common carp – known as “Chester” – stocked into Wyver Lane Pond, March 2020A beautiful, large-shouldered mirror carp – fittingly named “Shoulders” – about to be introduced into our pond at BelperThe pair of specimen carp now swimming in Wyver Lane Pond
We’re sure you’ll agree, these carp – supplied by Frontfish UK – are lovely looking fish with great potential for growth. Hopefully these fish will be a prized target for Belper carpers for years to come.
Take a look at some of our other known carp in our Carp Gallery.
Wyver Lane Pond has fished really well today, many carp have been caught with the biggest taken by Tony Carline; this fish tipped the scales at 19lb 9oz.

There was also a carp of 18lb caught by Andy Bennett.
A short 2 hour morning session for another angler produced 3 carp, with the biggest 15lb 8oz.
Martin Jacques fished pole and maggot and after a slow start, had 2 small carp, 2 tench and 3 bream and a few small roach for a total weight of 23lb.
Wyver Lane Pond will be CLOSED FOR FISHING until at least 1st December, due to the damage and debris left by flooding. Conditions will be reassed in late November with a view to reopening the pond.
A work party is arranged for Sunday 24th November to clear the mess, and members are urged to attend and lend a hand if possible.
Proposed work to take place is – removal of debris around the otter fence, clearing path of silt and sludge, and refilling pegs with stone.
Volunteers are most welcome to come and help out, we will be meeting at 8.30 in the pond car park.

In the recent match on Wyver Lane Pond at Belper, Adam Ingram on peg 13 took some nice roach and perch and completed his net with this lovely common carp of 9lb 1oz.
Club member Mike Oxley sent us a catch report, along with this photo, of a nice mixed bag of mainly perch & roach caught from Wyver Lane Pond over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
The last spring match on Wyver Lane Pond was held on Sunday 10th June. This was the Harry Fitton Memorial Match, during which club members managed to raise £50.00 for the local Hospice.
The match results were as follows:
